Publié en 1815, le roman de Sir Walter Scott, *L'Antiquaire *, relate la vie écossaise durant la dernière décennie du XVIIIe siècle. Le protagoniste, William Lovel, est un historien amateur, archéologue et marchand d'antiquités d'origine douteuse. L'un des lieux décrits dans le livre est Monkbarns, un manoir fictif écossais inspiré par la visite de Scott à une véritable demeure à Arbroath, Hospitalfield House. Cette maison, située sur la côte de la mer du Nord près d'Aberdeen, est aujourd'hui un lieu de retraite pour artistes. Il y a de nombreuses années, notre maître coutelier a passé une année en résidence d'artiste à Hospitalfield. Ce parfum s'inspire de ses souvenirs et de son expérience sur place.
